印地安人投手包爾（Trevor Bauer）場上投球虎虎生風，場下當起一日數學家教也難不倒他，而他在休賽期間透過推特指導女學生瑪丁（Maddie Martin）作業，令瑪丁直呼，「他是我的英雄，豐富我的人生。」
本季包爾最令人印象深刻的是在美聯冠軍賽對藍鳥期間，因為玩無人機弄傷手指，球季結束後他展現令人意想不到的一面，當他在家上網時，推特突然傳來一條來自瑪丁的訊息。
起初瑪丁只是和包爾討論關於無人飛機的話題，之後突然問他說，「你了解直線方程式的y軸截距，和斜率嗎？我對於數學考試的內容有些不明白。」包爾聽到瑪丁的疑問後，沒有直接拒絕，反而問她說，「是什麼樣的問題呢？」
瑪丁說，「我現在不在家，只記得是直線方程式，必須畫圖說明y軸截距。」包爾則耐心跟她解釋，「y軸截距是直線與y軸相交的位置。」意味著相交的那一點位置為（0，b）那麼y軸截距為b。
瑪丁聽到後直呼，「喔！我好像有點懂了，但我得回去看問題，謝謝你的回答。」而她回到家後將問題上傳，「這題的問題是假設方程式為y-8=x，會經過以下那些點？答案有（-2，6）、（0，8）、（2，10）等，但我不知道如何得到這些答案。」
包爾表示，只要把數字帶進去即可，像是（-4，4）、（5，13）也是答案之一。瑪丁聽到後又再次的向他表達感激，「我從沒想過你會協助我解決問題，但你卻這樣做，這對我而言意義重大。」包爾則說，「很高興我可以幫助到妳，祝妳考試順利。」
>網路上則有一名老師，看到他們兩人的對話，不禁回應，「這真是令人印象深刻的事，而我把內容告訴我的學生，他們很忌妒妳的遭遇。」還不忘說道，「好好享受他指導妳的作業，這是一件很酷的事情，如果妳有任何問題也可以問我。」
